As always, it takes me forever to update my website... Check back often for more updates, though! I will continue to post Gabriel's pictures, and information on my performances.
March 2007
Greetings from Westchester County, New York! Life is good in the Hughes/ Martin-Ruiz household. I recently accepted a job offer to be the next Coordinator of the Conservatory of Music at Purchase College, a SUNY school. I am absolutely thrilled to be back in a music setting, and working side-by-side with some of the best performers and music teachers New York has to offer! In fact, if you are looking for musical instruction, I'd definitely encourage you to check out our Conservatory's website.
And since I know many of you check often for pictures, I'll give you just a few photos of Gabriel, so you can all see how big he is. Hard to believe we just celebrated his second birthday!

Ok, this one is just a bit older, but I couldn't resist myself, he looks so cute building his blocks... |

Happy Holidays, everyone!
Mike and I have had a very, very busy few months. Mike's dad lost his battle to cancer in July, and we were once again reminded of how grateful we are to be so close to his family. It's been a difficult time for all of us, and we miss him so much, especially around this time of the year. But we are so grateful that we were able to spend so much time with him over the last year, and we know he is watching over us, up there...
We also bought a home in White Plains, and we moved over the summer. We are finally settled in the new home, and loving every minute of it! We love being in a city, within walking distance of all the malls, restaurants, bakeries...
Our new address is: and our new phone number:
10 Nosband Avenue, 6G (914)437-5047
White Plains, NY 10605
Gabriel is doing well, too. It's hard to believe that he is almost 2 years old. I will post pictures soon, I know some of you are checking periodically for new pictures!
May you have the most wonderful Holiday season! For me, I just want a little bit of down time, a couple of really good meals with my family in Spain, and lots and lots of music.
Bye, for now.
April 2005
In my life... It has been an exciting couple of months. My husband Michael J. Hughes has now finished his Ph.D. in Military History at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. On February 10, 2005 he became Dr. Mike. His parents, brother and grandmother came out to Champaign to celebrate with us. It was a wonderful to have everyone here (though we missed our sister-in-law, Mindy, and the boys, Alex and Ben).
And on February 18 we also became proud parents of Gabriel Martin Hughes, a healthy and beautiful 7lb.3 oz. baby boy, our pride and joy. And we haven't slept ever since... just kidding. He is actually a very good baby, and he has been sleeping through the night since he was two months old! He smiles a lot, and he is just a joy to be around.

This picture was taken at the hospital before we left, he is about 36 hours old. And already cute and good looking like his dad! |
| Gabriel is just three days old in this picture. Mom looks tired, doesn't she? None of us were sleeping much in those early days... | ![]() |

Here he is about 2 months old, sleeping like an angel. |
| Here he is at 3 months, so cute in his blue outfit. | ![]() |

Just do it! |
| I can't believe he is almost four months old... It may be wishful thinking, but I think he is starting to look a lot like Mom now... maybe? | ![]() |

April 2005
Five days after the birth of our son Mike traveled to the State of New York for a job interview at Iona College, a small Catholic Liberal Arts School about 30 minutes north of Manhattan. A week later he was offered the job. He accepted. So we sold our home in Champaign, and started looking for movers!
We recently returned from New Rochelle, we now have found a place to live, and I have also found a job in Admissions at Iona. We are moving in less than a month. And so it is the end of an era. I have lived in Illinois for 11 years, and I have been very happy here. Unfortunately, our life is now taking us in a different direction, and we are moving to New York this summer. I am going to miss central Illinois. We'll miss our friends, co-workers, the easy life style, the 5-minute commute to work, the affordable cost of real estate... but I am also very excited about this new stage in our lives, and I can't wait to be there, and get settled.
